Lately I've been receiving a lot of favourites on 1 deviation in particular.
Problem is, it's not my most valuable deviation, it's not the one I'm most proud of or put the most effort in.. on the contrary.

The deviation I'm talking about can't even be found in my gallery, you have to look for it in my scrapbook. The deviation I'm talking about is tards stamp.



Now, I know things like these can happen. I know some rather silly things can become surprisingly popular. Hell.. it happened to me before:

My little pink ribbon is a tiny piece of pixel-art that took me exactly 10 seconds to make.. and yet it's my most commented deviation.. and it's in my top 5 of most favourited deviations as well.

The reason for this however is pretty simple, it was a hype. It received a lot of attention during the breast cancer awareness week last year, but after that I rarely received a comment on it.. don't even think about getting a favourite.


My tards stamp on the other hand is different. I created it to support another hype, one that took place about a year ago.. and lasted a few months. However the tards hype is long gone by now.. but people still add the deviation to their favourites.. each day I receive a couple of favs on this silly stamp.
So I wondered why.


After examining the history of favourites received on that deviation the reason became pretty obvious. So.. let's see:

• April 2007: 10 favourites
• May 2007: 4 favourites
• June 2007: 2 favourites
• July 2007: 8 favourites
• August 2007: 5 favourites
• September 2007: 8 favourites
• October 2007: 8 favourites
• November 2007: 9 favourites
• December 2007: 9 favourites
• January 2008: 5 favourites
• February ( 1 - 9 ) 2008: 2 favourites

So, up until now everything is pretty normal:

Total favourites: 70
Average favourites a month: 6,8

Now, you might notice I stopped counting in the middle of the month February 2008.
Why you may ask ? Because something special happened back then:


Collections launch on deviantART

On February 9, 2008 deviantART launches the collections system, giving deviants the ability to easily collect ( and favourite ) deviations.. now let's see what happens:

• february ( 10 - 29 ) 2008: 29 favourites
• march 2008: 49 favourites
• april 2008: 81 favourites
• may (1 - today) 2008: 41 favourites

hohoho.. notice anything different ?

New favourites since collections arrived: 200
Average favourites a month since collections arrived: 68,9

That right there is what ? a 1000% increase in favourites on one of my silliest deviations in the last few months.

So that.. is the secret, that is the key.
